There are five main applications in the petroleum industry that require nitrogen to improve oil recovery, including pressure maintenance, miscible flooding, immiscible flooding, gas-assisted gravity drainage (GAGD), and mixed gas, which can increase reservoir reserves. Nitrogen can also be used as a charged fluid to fracture shale or other unconventional reservoirs to produce tight oil and gas reservoirs.

CO2 production increase service

Praxair's proprietary fleet has a 60-ton reservoir, valve block and booster pump for manhole cover storage and carbon dioxide suction, which can be operated remotely. We are a leader in gas supply logistics and liquid sources. Our highly skilled technicians, engineers and site supervisors work closely with service providers and owners to ensure that all fracturing operations are flawless. In addition, we also provide technical support for live fluid fracturing design through E-Frac simulation.

Trial production of carbon dioxide and nitrogen to improve oil recovery services

By injecting carbon dioxide or nitrogen into the oil tank of the first or second production stage, the oil recovery efficiency is improved. To determine if your tank is suitable for this service, we performed geological analysis and computer modeling to determine the best strategy to use. However, before investing in infrastructure to improve oil recovery across the site, we had a small pilot production test service. We will supply, transfer and pump carbon dioxide or nitrogen to the site for short-term to medium-term, generally 1 to 36 months for trial production testing.

Throughput service

Praxair's cyclical throughput service uses CO2 to increase well production for three production runs. During this process, carbon dioxide is injected into a single well. The oil well is closed during the soaking period, and the carbon dioxide is dissolved in the petroleum to expand it, increasing the saturation and permeability and reducing the reduced viscosity. Oil is then re-produced from the stimulated wells at a higher rate than before processing.

Nitrogen supply and pressure pumping

Praxair gas supply facilities, storage and pumping equipment, and a team of experts can meet your high-pressure nitrogen needs in your oil or gas well. We deliver liquid nitrogen to the well site with on-board storage, and use high pressure pumps to provide liquid nitrogen in high pressure. We also have a direct-fired heat recovery vaporizer that converts liquid nitrogen into gas at the desired exhaust temperature.
